The hotel was originally designed by the modernist architect Morris Lapidus and his iconoclastic design can be seen in both the inside and exterior of the building.  The hotel has also played host to its own little bit of Hollywood history. In 1955 during filming of the Seven Year Itch Marilyn Monroe was posing in front of the hotel when a sudden gust of wind blew her halter dress upwards and thus an iconic image was born.
