4* out of 5 stars

The boundless beauty of the Philippines is all here at El Nido Apulit Island in Northern Palawan. Its surrounding landscape serves as a snapshot of the country’s natural charms; think coconut palms studding a white-sand cove where rugged limestone cliffs cascade to the tranquil Taytay Bay. It’s a habitat that supports fascinating wildlife and tropical fish, and one that rarely fails to invoke adventure and romance in its visitors.

This exclusive getaway comprises 50 water cottages built to traditional local specifications. The authentic architecture blends effortlessly with comfortable, modern fixtures and fittings to create a serene atmosphere in which to rest and relax. The afore-mentioned marine life thrives below your cottage and snorkelling in the house reef unveils more besides. There’s also a recently built swimming pool to keep you refreshed in the warm weather.

As you’d expect in this part of the Asia, food is fresh and delicious at El Nido Apulit Island. Onsite gardens yield organically-grown greens that join grilled catch-of-the-day seafood on an extensive menu at The Clubhouse Restaurant. Filipino hilot massages at the resort spa and ‘rappeling’ climbs on the cliffs highlight some of the more unique experiences at what is a unique resort. There’s also a beach bar, boutique and Octagon Pier – the ideal venue for anything from a cocktail to a wedding.
