Tears and tantrums are a major rarity in paradise but they’re exactly what you can expect this weekend when 12 unlucky acts are rejected on the X Factor.

Oh yes, the ubiquitous annual televisual juggernaut is back in our front rooms. We may laugh, cry, squirm on our sofa and shout at our TV but we’ll always watch as the drama unfolds. It’s simply great telly. Tomorrow the show picks up pace and reaches the stage that separates the wheat from the chaff – Judges’ Houses.

In previous years we’ve watched hopefuls’ dreams get dashed onto the polished floors of palatial piles in such glamorous locales as Dubai and Miami. Similarly, this time round the mentors host their future stars in New York, LA, St Tropez and Antigua and it’s to the latter that we’d like you to pay particular attention this weekend.

An island ‘for every day of the year’, Antigua is a unique little gem in the Eastern Caribbean. Its year-round tropical sun shines down on crystal clear waters, colourful corals and swaying palms. Exotic birds flutter and flourish in these balmy conditions – an evocative sight as they glide through an ever cloudless sky. And the gentle lilt of local calypso and soca music in the air certainly gets our vote.

Antigua is paradise and the picture we’ve tried to paint above can never fully do it justice. This magical place has to be seen to be believed so don’t listen to us – keep your eyes on the screen as Nicole, Gary et al showcase the island while they show contestants the door. 24 will be whittled down to 12 this weekend before the chosen ones proceed to the next stage.

Their whoops of joy won’t be out of place in an environment well aquainted with happiness and as you witness this on screen we reckon it will trigger your imagination.

And that’s why, drum-roll please, to celebrate Antigua’s X Factor appearance, we’ve lined up some fabulous holiday deals at the St James’s Club in Antigua. See below for a quick run-down. We told you to pay attention!
