Sunny St. Pete is a hotspot for all things beach and beyond. Coupled with its coastal neighbour, Clearwater, these two Floridian towns have multi-award-winning beaches, galleries galore, adrenaline-pumping activities and more. Our travel specialists have narrowed this mind-boggling plethora of things to do in St. Petersburg to recommend the very best for your holiday in Florida.

Art for Arts Sake: Surrealism & Street Art

The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg is home to over 2,400 works spanning the breadth of Salvador Dalí’s life and career. Including a virtual reality experience, an interactive tour, and an ‘avant-garden’, the museum is a total must-visit for those looking for a fresh perspective on surrealist art.

Visiting Downtown St. Pete, you’ll notice that the locals love a mural. Brick wall = blank canvas. See everything from shockingly realistic portraits, to crazy explosions of abstract shapes and colours on a walking tour of the town’s best pieces. Alternatively hold out for the annual SHINE St. Pete Mural Festival.

Active Adventures: Water & Wildlife

Whilst St. Pete, with its incredible beaches and other natural hotspots, is a hub for swimming and boating, we recommend you try something a little different and hop atop a paddleboard. Try SUP along the warm, clear waters of St. Pete Beach, or head to Fort de Soto, where you can close to the wild manatees there.

Weedon Island Preserve is 3,190-acre low-lying natural space, comprised of a number of different ecosystems. This includes a four-mile kayaking trail with mangrove tunnels, seagrass flats, and a great variety of wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for wading birds, colourful crabs, fish, and lizards.

Treat Yourself: Shops & Hops

Central Avenue is the place to go for retail therapy. Scout for antique souvenirs, peruse the coffee and juice shops, or stop for a bite to eat (there’s everything from vegan sushi, to BBQ, and world ice-cream). Try on vintage accessories, add to your vinyl collection, or check out the range of galleries in the Crislip Arcade.

Hop heads would be making a serious mistake in overlooking 3 Daughters Brewing – one of Florida’s fastest-growing local breweries. Make a pit-stop whilst in St. Petersburg and try some phenomenal craft beers, eclectic bar snacks (nachos, devilled eggs, poke and burgers), and live entertainment.

Join the Team: Shuffle & Swing

Shuffleboard has been played in Florida for over 100 years, and you can visit the home of this easygoing yet competitive sport in St. Pete. Head down to the club on a Friday night to enjoy learning how to slide your puck under fairy lights with music and craft beer. This sport is certainly moving with the times.

Those keen to tee off, rejoice! Florida is easily America’s number one state for golf. St. Pete is no exception, offering a number of challenging courses for enthusiasts and newbies. Check out Dunedin Golf Club or Mangrove Bay. Alternatively,  hit up Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf for something a little lighter; even if the mini golf isn’t a winner, the real life alligators definitely will be.
