The Crop Over festival is the most important celebration in Barbados. A massive carnival that congregates thousands of people from all over the world during more than a month.

The festival has its origins in the 1780s, a time when Barbados was the world’s largest sugar producer, to commemorate the end of the harvest. Sugarcane was introduced in Barbados in 1640, and the group that played a decisive role in the success of this industry were the Sephardi Jews, previously expelled from Spain.
