Here at Kenwood, we (mostly) take travel seriously. And we definitely don’t just bandy around the phrase ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ willy nilly – when we say it, we tend to mean it. So in the spirit of things, we’ve compiled a go hard or go home bucket list of incredible must-try experiences around the globe that might only be surpassed by the accommodation to match. Thrill-seekers, life-lovers, experience-collectors, and limit-pushers please apply within. Bargain-hunters should also stick around for our exclusive See the World Sale offers…

1. Swim with Sharks

The Maldives is home to over 25 different species of sharks, making it one of the best places to swim with these legendary ocean-dwellers. Scuba diving can bring you face to face with hammerheads, leopard sharks, and even the elusive whale shark (if you’re lucky). The best part? You don’t need to be a divemaster to sink your teeth into this enviable experience. We’ll apologise in advance for getting that song stuck in your head for the next week, but: baby sharks. In shallow lagoons across the archipelago, you’ll find totally harmless infant reef sharks gathering in shoals. Book a snorkelling trip around the resort’s house reef, or ask concierge where you can catch a feeding.

2. Go to Walt Disney World

Yes, we’ll admit we are the first to protest the common theory that Walt Disney World is just for kids. But trust us on this one: you’re never too old to give in to the contagious magic of the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’. If roller coasters, exotic animals, and water rides don’t float your boat, allow a live stage performance to capture your imagination, hit the shops for some retail therapy, or even sit down for some incredible signature dining (it’s not all candy floss and corn dogs). We promise you’ll be picking your jaw up from the floor when you see the sky behind the Disney World Castle light up with fireworks whether you’re aged 7 or 70. Cheers to never growing up.

3. See the Northern Lights

From one magical light show to the next – our next item on the bucket list agenda is the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. Best seen when the night sky is dark and the weather cold and dry, this natural phenomenon can be seen streaking the sky with a vivid palette of otherworldly colours. Iceland is one of the greatest places on earth to catch this celestial ballet, with many local tour companies in Reykjavik offering Aurora-hunting expeditions. Many even include an insurance policy, whereby if you don’t see the sometimes elusive lights on your first tour, you can return as many times as you like until they show. We like those odds.

4. Go on safari

South Africa is world-renowned for safari – a must-do for all nature lovers – and you won’t have to travel far outside the vibrant capital to see it for yourself. Just a couple hours’ drive outside of Cape Town, you can visit Aquila Private Game Reserve, which serves the full big five experience and then some. Tackle this beast on a traditional game drive, by horseback, or on quad bikes. Half an hour further than Aquila lies Inverdoorn, which is also home to Western Cape Cheetah Conservation. Alternatively, just an hour from Cape Town, Buffelsfontein Game Reserve is also a convenient place to spot iconic creatures such as lion, leopard, white rhino, and buffalo.

5. Visit a temple

Visit a temple on your next travels and sit back as your mind boggles. Often incredible feats of intricate architecture and colourful manifestations of religious devotion, it’s kinda hard not to be impressed. Thailand’s Phuket region is brilliant for checking this one off your list with its bevy of Buddhist temples and Chinese shrines. The Big Buddha is perhaps one of the most revered sacred sites on the island, and also offers 360-degree views of it surrounds. For further giant Buddhas, please see the gold-plastered Wat Srisoonthorn and Wat Suwan Khuha. Alternatively, pay your respects at the Wat Chalong Grand Pagoda, or Phramahathatchedi-Jomthaibarameepragat to use its official name…
