Honeymoon holidays to the Maldives are unsurprisingly popular as the paradise islands are home to some of the most romantic places on earth. White beaches, crystal clear seas and watercolour sunsets are just some of the natural features that happy couples can enjoy as Andrew from The Luxury Editor explains.

For the relaxed couple
Staying in overwater villas
The overwater villas in the Maldives are world-famous and staying in this type of accommodation is really romantic. Most of these water villas will have a glass-floor section so you can see the incredible marine life as you rest, whilst others will also boast Jacuzzis and other luxury features.
Isabel, who runs the travel blog Bel Around The World, recommends this incredible accommodation, “One of the most romantic things to do in the Maldives is definitely to visit some of these mind-blowing overwater villas. Spend a night or two if you can for they offer some of the most luxurious treatments, from sumptuous buffet spreads to dinners by the beach. Walk along the spine of the jetty, hand in hand, as you try and spot the marine wildlife through the crystal clear turquoise waters.”
Jan from travel resource blog The Luxury Travel Expert agrees that staying in an overwater villa is a perfect moment of privacy in the Maldives.
“I would say that the most romantic thing to do in the Maldives is to stay in a palatial overwater villa perched above pristine water where a dip in the warm sea waters of the Indian Ocean is literally outside your door.
“And when you do that in Soneva Jani, you will even get a villa with in-room glass viewing panels and a retractable roof, so you can spot schools of fish below or gaze at the stars above at night with your loved one.”
Going on a sunset cruise
Travel blogger and writer Jayne Gorman runs the Girl Tweets World blog and she spent her honeymoon in the Maldives.
Talking about the special moments she and her husband experienced, she says, “The most romantic thing we did on our Maldives honeymoon was take a sunset cruise on a traditional dhoni.
“We sunk into beanbags on the open top deck and were served delicate canapés and a cold glass of bubbly, the perfect accompaniments to a rose pink sunset. The reef-sheltered waters surrounding our resort were as calm as bathwater and it was great to see the overwater bungalows from the water as we smoothly circled them.”
Couples massages
If you are both looking to really unwind after the stress of organising your wedding, you can rejuvenate yourselves and let those tensions slip away by enjoying a couple’s massage. Most resorts in the Maldives boast a romantic and secluded treatment area whether it is on a private beach or an area with stunning views.

Parasailing
Also known as parascending or parakiting, this kiting activity will see you towed behind a boat whilst being attached to a parasail wing.
You’re then physically lifted into the air and you’ll feel like you’re almost flying. The views are also spectacular.
Isabel from Bel Around The World, says, “Get up in the air, not with the drone camera, but by parasailing, and commit to memory how the atolls and surrounding waters conjure up various shapes, much like gemstones.”
Snorkelling and diving
If you’re an active couple and would like to get out and about during your honeymoon, then you should consider exploring the Maldives’ underwater worlds either through snorkelling or diving.
Lauren from Never Ending Footsteps has visited the Maldives before and the travel writer says a memorable activity was snorkelling.
She says, “My favourite romantic activity in the Maldives is taking a snorkelling trip to a nearby reef. The water visibility is excellent throughout the country, and the reefs so shallow that you don’t need to dive in order to see the coral and sea life.
“I spent an incredible afternoon with my boyfriend on a private snorkelling experience, where we swam with sea turtles and a thousand colourful fish, and it still ranks as one of the highlights from my six years of travel.”

Lankan Beyru is a renowned dive site in the Maldives because it is considered to be the most consistent spot for seeing Manta Rays. Between April and November these stunning creatures gather for the southwest monsoon. You can also see turtles, whitetip sharks, hawksbill turtles, barracudas, humphead wrass and moray eels.
For the foodie couple
Dine with stunning views over lagoons
A romantic meal with great views over the sea is a must for a honeymoon in the Maldives and one of the most popular restaurants is Kurumba Maldives’ Thila.
A spokesperson for the resort, says, “Kurumba Maldives’ signature dining venue Thila is one of the most romantic restaurants at the resort.
“It offers our guests sumptuous dishes carefully designed by our chef with stunning views at the lagoon and the night sky. The restaurant design allows guests to experience dining on the overwater deck or with their feet in the sand.”
Private beach BBQ
Imagine having a private beach to yourself and then being able to enjoy a delicious BBQ that you don’t even have to cook yourself!
This dream can become a reality as Naomi Louwerens, owner of Authentic Chic, explains in her blog the about Maldives’ marine life heaven.
She says, “This (private beach BBQ) is also perfect for couples and of course very romantic! This experience is offered on a private sandbank in the middle of nowhere as well, but we preferred to have this 3-course meal freshly barbecued by our villa and served to us on the beach right in front of it.”
