The Datai Langkawi

5* out of 5 stars

Located right in the lush rainforest with its incredible richness of flora and fauna and offering breathtaking views of the Andaman sea, The Datai is your luxury hotel of choice. Over two decades ago, famed architect Kerry Hill designed and built the Datai to honour nature, preserving the majestic coastline whilst creating a luxurious masterpiece. Now, the Datai Langkawi continues to blend seamlessly into the surrounding ancient rainforest with even more luxurious amenities.

Luxury Holidays to the Datai

Since its recent $60 million renovation, this gorgeous idyll boasts fresh new interiors and exteriors, making your next Langkawi holiday even more luxurious. Throw in the fact that The Datai already established itself as a winner of numerous international awards and constantly tops Malaysia's Top 25 hotel lists for its high quality service and spectacular guest experience, this is a luxurious getaway to remember.

Your leisure time activities at The Datai will be unmatched. Non-motorised water sports, including sailing and boogie boards, are free of charge, as are mountain bikes on which you can discover the secrets of this ancient natural beauty that is the island of Langkawi. A private beach, tennis courts, swimming pools, a new gym located next to the beach and an exclusive 18-hole championship golf course are all waiting for you at The Datai.

The Datai Things To Do

For nature lovers, local naturalist-guided tours around the rainforest are organised, as well as special morning and evening walks. For a more physically challenging experience, choose jungle trekking which can be custom-designed to adjust to your fitness level. Jungle trekking is also available for families with children. In February 2019 The Datai Langkawi completed an exciting refurbishment project. The resort’s iconic Malay ship, the Naga Pelangi, with its swordfish sails, has now returned to Datai Bay and is available for cruise hire and  excursions until the end of April. The resort has also officially launched a new cooking school – The Dapur (meaning kitchen in Malay), from permaculture garden cultivation to kitchen skills. Choose Thai, Indian or Malay cooking classes. A supplement applies to the aforementioned cruise and cooking experiences.

Please note: The Ministry of Health has issued a new No Smoking Policy under the Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 2018. Food & Drink

The Beach Club

Luring with breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea and the soothing sound of waves breaking against the shore, The Beach Club tempts during the day with light snacks and wood-fired oven pizza. A tantalizing cocktail at a sunset hour with the sky exploding in gold, orange and crimson hues is the perfect prelude to a themed buffet dinner or à la carte Mediterranean and international cuisine.

The Beach Club Bar

This newly refurbished bar offers larger seating capacity with stunning views over the shimmering Andaman sea. A perfect location for pre dinner drinks.

The Dining Room

On the same level as the Main Pool, with indoor and outdoor seating areas overlooking the rainforest, The Dining Room is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. When having breakfast during fruiting season, catch the Great hornbill feeding on the Strangling fig tree’s bountiful fruits. The Dining Room is where you’ll find a lavish buffet breakfast, with a made-to-order juice bar, and is an ideal venue for a quiet lunch. The ambience and mood changes subtly in the evening as the restaurant becomes a romantic fine dining experience, with candles reflecting off the pool, and signature French dishes influenced by local ingredients. The menu is complemented by the exclusive hand-picked wine selection from the walk-in wine cellar.

The Gulai House

The Gulai House enchants with the rustic atmosphere of a traditional Malay kampung house and the ever present symphony of the wildlife. The spacious restaurant provides an open dining area, secluded nobats and alcoves shielded by airy organza drapes with traditional Malay low tables and cushion seats on hand-woven pandan mats for an intimate couples experience. Celebrating indigenous customs, the graceful wait-staff dressed in Malay costumes will greet you with a traditional hand-wash ritual prior to serving authentic Malay dishes and tantalizing Indian cuisine served on banana leaves and in traditional hand-crafted ceramic bowls.

The Lobby Lounge

Offering a breathtaking panoramic view over the rainforest canopy and the emerald green Andaman Sea, the Lobby Lounge serves delicious light snacks during the day, while tempting in the evenings with live music, savory canapés, exquisite cocktails and a selection of fine cigars.

The Pavilion

Rising on a 30-meter high stilts, floating in the canopy of a virgin rainforest with a distant view of the Andaman Sea and the Thai Tarutao islands on the horizon, The Pavilion lures with mellow Thai music, exquisite table-tops and the flickering light of candles. Repeatedly awarded by Malaysian Tatler for out-of-this-world culinary delights, The Pavilion is known for its gourmet Thai cuisine. Each dish is prepared à la minute with freshly harvested Thai herbs. Served in ceramic bowls and on a hot plate, the cuisine is a feast for the eyes as much as for one’s taste buds.
