Fort De Soto Park
Fort De Soto Park is spread over five islands in the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay, providing a full range of activities and amenities to keep visitors entertained. Rent a canoe or kayak, go on a cycling trip, go fishing on the pier, splash in the tidal pool, or collect shells on the beach. You can even pack up to eight people on a covered surrey bike and hit the nature trails.
The flora, fauna and leisure activities aren’t the only things worth discovering at Fort De Soto. You’ll also find the historic Fort De Soto Batteries, including the defensive ramparts and cannons. The Quartermaster Museum tells the story of the fort through educational displays, documents, and photographs.
Pier 60
Pier 60 is a 1,080-foot fishing pier in Clearwater, Florida. There is a bait house, selling fishing tackle and rental equipment, souvenirs, plus snacks and drinks. Eager fishing enthusiasts will find everything they need to catch Spanish mackerel, snappers, flounder, silver trout, and more. Try your hand at angling or any of the other activities on the pier, which include a playground ideal for kids.
The fun doesn’t stop when the day comes to an end, either. ‘Sunsets at Pier 60’ are a Clearwater Beach institution and an unmissable experience if you’re in the area. Check out craft stalls and live entertainment at the pier from 6-9pm daily and watch the sun sink below the horizon.
The Dalí Museum
The Dalí Museum, located in St. Petersburg, celebrates the life and works of the famous surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. Home to the largest collection of Dalí pieces outside of Europe, this is an excellent place to get a dose of culture on your trip to Florida. See some of his most mind-bending works, including Lincoln in Dalivision, plus interactive tours and displays.
Designed by architect Yann Weymouth, the building housing the museum is a spectacle in itself. Curved glass panes bulge and swell out the sides of the structure, whilst the waterfront ‘avant-garden’ is full of sculptures, exotic plant species and other curiosities not to be missed. You’ll also find a cafe and a well-stocked gift shop for souvenirs.
