Kennedy and Barack Obama both stayed at the hotel during each of their presidential visits to Yosemite. Queen Elizabeth also resided in the hotel during her visit to California in 1983. In fact, the Mary Curry Tresidder Suite has since been called the Queen’s Room, since it was the very room she stayed in. Other famous guests include some of Hollywood’s finest; Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin, Lucille Ball, Walt Disney and many more. The interiors of the Majestic Yosemite Hotel were also an inspiration for the set design of Timberline Lodge, the fictional hotel featured in the 1980 film, the Shining, which starred Jack Nicholson.
