Sri Lanka Wildlife 4 Night Private Tour

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival / Galle

On arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be met by your English-Speaking chauffeur guide and transferred to Galle (approximately 3 hours transfer time). Situated on a peninsula on the southwest tip of the island, the Old Town of Galle and its fortifications is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

During the morning, you will take a walking tour of the 17th century, Dutch-built Galle Fort. This is your opportunity to discover the best-preserved example of a European fortified city in Asia. Explore the charming architecture, the imposing fort walls, and the serpentine streets lined with boutiques and eateries.

Spend the night at Amari Galle (or an alternative hotel of a similar standard) in a Deluxe Ocean View Room on half board.

Day 2 – Galle / Udawalawe

During the morning, you will take a walking tour of the 17th century, Dutch-built Galle Fort. This is your opportunity to discover the best-preserved example of a European fortified city in Asia. Explore the charming architecture, the imposing fort walls, and the serpentine streets lined with boutiques and eateries.

The afternoon will be dedicated to the captivating Kanneliya Rainforest – which should take approximately 1.5 hours to reach. Considered one of the most varied rainforests in the country, the forests boast a range of flora and fauna. With two of the island’s main rivers running through it, as well as a thick treetop canopy, you’re in with the chance of seeing monkeys, exotic birds, snakes, and chameleons.

Next, you’ll make the transfer towards Udawalawe, which should take approximately 3 hours. Regarded as one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see elephants, this is a true highlight for wildlife enthusiasts. Check in at Kalu’s Hideaway (or an alternative hotel of a similar standard), where you will be spending the night in a Standard Room on half board basis.

Day 3 – Udawalawe National Park / Yala

Begin the morning with a visit to the Elephant Transit Home, which looks after young orphaned elephants until they are four years old before releasing them back into the wild at Udawalawe.
During the afternoon, you’ll go on safari at Udawalawe National Park. This protected sanctuary is formed of teak plantations, grassland, the Udawalawe Reservoir and the Walawe River – all surrounded by majestic mountain ranges. As well as the large herds of elephants for which the park is known, you may also encounter deer, wild boar, wild buffalo, jackals and (if you are very lucky) leopards.

After this, guests can check out of the hotel and continue their journey to Yala. Transfer time takes approximately 2 hours. In Yala, you'll check in to Kithala Resort (or an alternative hotel of a similar standard) and stay in a Deluxe Room on half board.

Day 4 – Yala National Park / Ruhana Lakes

Kick the day off with an early pick up from your hotel in a jeep that will escort you to the park entrance. Yala National Park is one of the largest national parks in the country with a diverse landscape featuring woodland, grassy plains, and ancient ruins. This multifaceted ecosystem is home to boar, crocodiles, deer, elephants, and wild buffalo, just to name a few species. You may even spot the magnificent, yet elusive leopard.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit the three biggest lakes in Ruhana. First, meet the local agricultural workers and fishermen in Debarawewa. Move on to Tissa, where the wide-reaching attracts some phenomenal birdlife. Finally, stop at Weerawila, for an encounter with rural village life, including a visit to the local pottery maker. Enjoy another nights’ stay at Kithala Resort (or an alternative hotel of a similar standard) in a Deluxe Room on half board basis.

Day 5 – Departure

Today you can choose to transfer to the airport (approx. 6.5 hours), drive to Southern Beach (approx.5 hours) or make your way to Negombo for your beach extension (approx. 6.5 hours).
Please note: between Yala National Park annual closure dates (September to mid-October), clients can choose to go on alternative safaris at Bundala National Park or Yala Bloc three or five.
