Super Bowl Sunday (1st Sunday in February) – Superbowl parties with friends are the way to go when tickets are hard to come by. Get out the chips and dips, crack a beer and cheer on your team. 

Saint Patrick's Day (17th March) – Commemorating the patron saint of Ireland is a major celebration in the US. Many cities have a strong Irish-American population but few go as far as the windy city: The Chicago River is dyed green in honour of the festivities. 

Thanksgiving (November 27th) – The quintessential American ‘holiday’. Families and friends gather to give thanks while Macy's department store in New York hosts one of the largest and most colourful parades in the annual calendar. Not to be missed.

Weather

Due to its rather massive size the climate of the USA is quite varied. The northwest of the country, for instance, can get quite cold in the winter and sees rain all year round. The northeast gets quite warm in the summer but can see heavy snowfall during the winter months.

The southeast and southwest, on the other hand, tend to be much warmer with milder winters and hotter summers. The southwest region, encompassing the likes of Texas, Arizona and Louisiana is the hotter part of the country although will see the occasional tornado and thunderstorms.

Visas

All British passport holders must have a full 10-year British Passport that is valid for at least six months after their return to the UK. A USA visa or waiver form/ESTA MUST be obtained prior to your visit. Apply online for your ESTA at least 72 hours before travelling. If you have a passport showing you are a UK citizen then you are able to obtain a  US visa, or ESTA, under the Visa Waiver Scheme. However, for clients travelling to the States after 1st April 2016 you will need to hold a passport with an integrated chip. For security reasons this holds all of your personal information, as stated on the passport, but in digital format. If your passport does not have this feature then you will need to renew the passport before your departure date. The Passport Office will add up to 9 months of any unexpired time and you can recognise the chip by a gold symbol, resembling a camera, on the bottom of the front cover of the passport.
