The Portswood V&A Waterfront

4* out of 5 stars

Steeped in Capetown cultural history, the restaurant and lobby at The Portswood V&A Waterfront are famously built around the old jail cells that held prisoners in transit to Robben Island some 300 years ago. Today however, it’s safe to say, visitor’s experience couldn’t be more different.

Laid back living, located minutes away from Alfred waterfront and Two Oceans Aquarium, awaits guests at The Portswood V&A Waterfront. Plush furnishings and clean, modern fittings in the lobby area act as a prelude to the level of comfort to be found in the property’s 103 well-appointed rooms. Each is air-conditioned and features DVD players and mini-bars. You’ll also enjoy the reassurance of a personal safe and the convenience of a hairdryer, private bathroom and designer toiletries.

After a day as thrilling or relaxed as you wish, perhaps exploring nearby Table Mountain or taking in a museum or gallery in the city, repairing back to the The Portswood V&A Waterfront hotel brings the opportunity to relax in style. Cool off in the refreshing outdoor pool that sits in its own charming courtyard; work up an appetite with a few laps beneath a Capetonian sunset. Before dinner why not grab a cocktail at the hotel’s intimate bar/lounge before sitting down to some fine cuisine at the Quarterdeck Restaurant overlooking the blossoming gardens. Alternatively you could stay in and order room service, which is a 24-hour service. The hotel also serves a complimentary hot/cold breakfast buffet each day.
