Arrival / City Tour

Transfer to hotel upon your arrival in Phnom Penh. In the afternoon, visit some of the capital city’s most amazing sites such as the National Museum; the Silver Pagoda (which houses the Emerald Buddha statue); the Royal Palace and Wat Phnom –the oldest shrine Phnom Penh. Phnom Penh

Toul Sleng Museum / Killing Fields / NGO & Hosted dinner in local home

A morning visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the notorious Khmer Rouge Killing Fields is a sobering start to day two. Please consider the fact these exhibits are quite graphic, and might be upsetting to some visitors. There’ll be a stop after this to visit the PSE (Pour Un Sourire d’Enfant), which provides support for underprivileged Cambodian children.

Lunch (payment not provided) at Le Lotus Blanc, where you can support the chef-training of some of these children as their guest before commencing a short sightseeing tour. In the evening, you’ll visit the home of a local family to experience a traditional home-cooked meal. Overnight accommodation in Phnom Penh.

Day 3
Phnom Penh

Cooking Class / Traditional Khmer Weaving Village ‘Koh Dach Island

The first activity today is a half-day cooking class. Learn to prepare genuine Khmer cuisine at La Rose in an authentic Khmer setting. Browse the market, meet stall holders and buy fresh produce to use in the meals you cook. The chef will show you how to cook several Khmer dishes. In the afternoon, drive to Koh Dach Island and begin a thrilling trip along the Mekong River to see the time-honoured traditions of a Khmer weaving village. Admire the villagers making dyes and weaving silk on old looms. Become immersed in the local lifestyle as wander through the village until your return trip back to the hotel. Kampong Kdei Bridge / Siem Reap

Following breakfast, drive to Siem Reap. Along the way witness the da-to-day life of local people in the countryside. En-route stop-off at Kampong Kdei Bridge, once the world’s longest corbel-arch stone bridge, comprising more than twenty narrow arches and spanning 285 feet. Amazingly, it dates back to the 12th century and the reign of King Jayavarman VII, and is one of only a small number of empire-era Khmer bridges still around today. Check-in at hotel. Visit the Roluos temples in the afternoon. This group of temples dates back to the 9th and 10th centuries, and includes Preah Ko, Bakong & Lolei. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Angkor Complex

Today’s visit to the mighty Angkor Complex begins at Angkor Thom via the Southern Gate before exploring the ancient city. Proceed next to the ruins at Bayon, Baphoun, Phimeanakas, the Royal Palace, the Elephant Terrace and the Leper King Terrace. In the afternoon, see the amazing Angkor Wat itself. Marvel at its extraordinary architecture before stopping to experience a breathtaking sunset over the monuments. Overnight stay in Siem Reap.

Siem Reap

Banteay Srei / Banteay Samre / Ta Prohm / Local Monastery for Blessing Ceremony

Wake up and have breakfast before heading out to the enchanting 11th-century Temple of Shiva – Banteay Srei – and the Banteay Samre Temple. On the way back, stop by the Ta Prohm Temple, jungle-shrouded and atmospheric. In the afternoon, transfer to a local monastery and join the resident monks in a private good luck blessing and ceremony to wish good health and safe travels, followed by the tying of sacred thread around your wrist. Hanoi / Ha Long Bay

Spend the morning discovering Hanoi’s fascinating history, then head to Ha Long Bay where you’ll witness the impressive marble edifice housing the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum. (Please note that this is closed on Mondays and Fridays.) After marvelling at the mausoleum, travel to One Pillar Pagoda to see the first university in Vietnam and the Temple of Literature. Ha Long Bay / Boat Cruise in Hanoi

Hanoi / Hue

Board your flight to the former Imperial Capital of Vietnam, Hue. Once you arrive, embark on a Perfume River cruise towards Thien Mu pagoda. In the afternoon, take a tour around the Imperial Citadel. This unmissable sight was inspired by the grandiose mausoleum of Emperor Tu Duc. Overnight in Hue.

Hue / Da Nang / Hoi An

Take a scenic journey driving along the coast to Hoi An, which features a stop via Lang Co. Once you arrive in Hoi An, you’ll visit a lantern workshop where you’ll discover how to make one of Vietnam’s famous lanterns yourself. Other highlights include an ancient merchant house, a 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, the Phuc Kien Assembly Hall and a colourful riverside market. Afterwards, charter a boat trip along the Thu Bon River then explore the old town in your free time. Overnight in Hoi An.

Da Nang / Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City / Cu Chi Tunnels

Today’s first stop is the famous Cu Chi Tunnels that the Vietnamese guerrillas built and utilized during the Vietnam War. In the afternoon, head back to Ho Chi Minh City for a tour of its best sights including the Central Post Office, the Reunification Palace, the Notre Dame Cathedral, Chinatown, the Binh Tay Market and either the Thien Hau Temple or the Quan Am Pagoda. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 8
Ho Chi Minh City / Cai Be / Vinh Long / Can Tho

After breakfast, drive to Cai Be for a cruise of Cai Be bay. Here, you can check out local merchants selling and trading from their boats. Once the cruise is over, you’ll arrive at a village that features a number of quaint family-run businesses that sell rice cakes. Once you’ve enjoyed your lunch at a local house, head to Binh Hoa Phuoc Islet and sample a sampan ride. Once the day is over, leave Vinh Long for a drive to Can Tho. Overnight in Can Tho.

Can Tho / Chau Doc

Start the day with a boat trip to Cai Rang Floating Market where you’ll see numerous little boats selling goods from around the Mekong Delta. This is the perfect spot to witness the lively merchants trading and selling, enjoy the local produce and losing yourself in the ambience before heading to Chau Doc, a trading port close to the Cambodian border. Once you’re there, embark on another boat cruise to Chau Doc fish farm and Cham village, Overnight in Chau Doc.

Chau Doc / Phnom Penh by Boat / 1-hour Foot or Khmer Traditional Massage

Today is an indulgence. Kick back and relax with a half day cruise to Phnom Penh in Cambodia, and admire the stunning scenery of the Mekong River as you go. Siem Reap / Banteay Srei / Banteay Samre / Ta Prohm / Local Monastery for Blessing Ceremony

The second last day of the tour will take you to the 11th-century Temple of Shiva called Banteay Srei. You’ll also be able to make stops by the Ta Prohm Temple, shrouded in jungle scenery. Drive to a local monastery in the afternoon and meet resident monks, where you will participate in a good luck blessing ceremony where the monks will wish you good luck and safe health on your onward journey. To finish the ceremony, the monks tie a sacred thread around your waist to protect you from evil spirits or accidents. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Phnom Penh / Toul Sleng Museum / Killing Fields / Home hosted dinner with local family

Visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the notorious Khmer Rouge Killing Fields in the morning. Please note this may not be suitable for all visitors as the exhibits are graphic. On the way back, stop at the PSE (Pour Un Sourire d’Enfant), which provides support for underprivileged children living in Cambodia. This programme has provided thousands of kids living in and around the streets of the Stung Meanchey dump in Phnom Penh with food, care, accommodation and education. Lunch (not included) taken at Le Lotus Blanc, the centre’s training restaurant, where you can support the training of these youngsters as their guest before enjoying a sightseeing tour. After an early rise, have breakfast before transferring to the airport for your Siem Reap flight. After checking in to your new hotel, access Angkor Thom from the Southern Gate and discover the ancient city. Proceed next to the Bayon ruins, Baphoun, Phimeanakas, Royal Palace, Elephant Terrace and the Leper King Terrace. Visit the magnificent Angkor Wat complex in the afternoon. Siem Reap / Banteay Srei / Banteay Samre / Taphrom

Following breakfast you’ll be driven to visit the peaceful 11th-century Temple of Shiva – Banteay Srei – and the Banteay Samre Temple. On the way back, visit the jungle-shrouded Ta Prohm Temple. Next, travel through the countryside to a Silk Farm at Pourk where silk making from start to finish is revealed. Afterwards, check out Artisans d’Angkor, where uneducated rural kids learn traditional crafts and skills. Ancient techniques are still in practice here, including wood carving, stone sculpting, lacquering, gilding and silk painting. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Yangon / Bagan

Early morning flight to Bagan following transfer the airport. On arrival, tour Bagan including the vibrant Nyaung Oo Market, Shwezigon Pagoda, Wetkyi-in Gubyaukkyi (cave temple with intricate jatakas murals), the elegant Htilominlo Temple (don’t miss the plaster carvings) and the Tharaba Gate. Bagan tour continues in the afternoon with visits to Ananda (an architectural masterpiece of early temple design), Ananda Okkyaung (one of the few brick monasteries from the early Bagan period to survive), Thatbyinnyu Temple (the highest in Bagan at 61m) and Dhammayangyi Temple (remarkable brickwork). Look forward to a glorious sunset view at one of the famous temples. Overnight in Bagan.

Bagan

After a hotel breakfast, head to Myinkaba village and witness classic lacquerware making, one of the best-known of the traditional Myanmar handicrafts, and a specialism of Bagan. Next look around Myinkaba Gubyaukkyi (a Hindu-inspired early Pyu-style temple). After this, tour the Manuha and Nanpaya temples. In the afternoon, take an countryside excursion to Minnanthu village. See the temples if time permits, including Payathonzu, Lemyethnar, Sinbyushin, Nandaminnya & Minnanthu monastery. Watch the sun set over the Ayeyarwaddy River at Bupaya. Overnight in Bagan.

Bagan / Mandalay / Amarapura / U Bein Bridge

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before transferring to the airport for the Mandalay flight. On route to the city, visit Maha Gdayone monastery (home to over 1000 monks) in Amarapura and the Mahamuni Pagoda (complete with cold leaf Buddha statue). Sightseeing in the afternoon takes in the Shwenandaw Monastery (beautiful woodcarvings) and the ‘the world’s biggest book’ – Kuthodaw Pagoda’s 700+ marble slabs of Buddhist texts. Admire the sunset from U Bein Bridge (at 1,208 meters, the longest teakwood bridge in the world) or from the Mandalay Hill with panoramic city views. During your time in Mandalay, call in at the local artisan workshops where bronze casting, gold leaf, wood & marble carving take place. Overnight in Mandalay.
